Dj Wickiss played ambient music. The aim of the event was to create both physical and emotional warmth. On this winter day, café Meho and friends helped make warm tea. The water was boiled in the church kitchen. A local newspaper called the event “Tea For Soul”. It was also a diploma project of Kalvis Kluburs, Indulis Dzenītis and Paulis Grīnhofs, music management students of Riga Dome Choir School.

004 – March 29, 2003 – Counterfeit 2 Party, Jelgava, Latvia

Another event during the night of switching to summer time. Another event when the morning came earlier. Every guest was asked to bring along a horseshoe of any kind. Several new records were premiered at the event, for example, the new De/Vision album Devolution, the yet-unreleased Camouflage single Me & You, the yet-unreleased Martin L. Gore’s new album Counterfeit2. The event was opened by a STandART performance, again with a different lineup: Kalvis Kluburs (vocals, bass guitar), Modris Matisāns (guitar), Kaspars “Kņazs” Stāmers (synthesizer), Dj Momentz (samples), Guna Pantele (violin). The drummer from Modris’ main band Z. I. P. Code – Māris Krūmiņš – helped out on the drums. The songs were mostly based on improvisation, though. This was the first time when Das Lied Vom Einsamen Mädchen was played apart from Kalvis’ and Modris’ German exams. An early version of the STandART piano piece Emigration was used as the concert intro. Afterwards, Māris Meldriņš also performed several songs on guitar. The visitors were offered to go into the bath-house and to receive answers to their questions from the Oracle of the Sugar Factory. Also the second contest called The Murkiest Dance was held. After the success of the first such contest, 5 pairs were ready to take part this time, although one of the ‘pairs’consisted of only one girl, and another ‘pair’ consisted of 3 people people including a member of the jury, which of course let this 3-people pair win the first prize. The winners were Modris Matisāns, Māris Kŗūmiņš, Kalvis Kluburs. There was some very romantically depressive dances. In the rhythm of DAFDer Mussolini, Kaspars “Kņazs” Stāmers and Guna Pantele performed a very aggressive and erotic dance. Before the dawn, the mysterious Black Camel arrived to perform his super erotic rutting-dance.

006 – May 9, 2003 – “Sprādziens” (Explosion), Rainis Park, Jelgava, Latvia

After several self-organized private events, this was the first public STandART performance. The concert of the new bands was held in Rainis Park. STandART were significantly different from other bands, which mostly based  their sound on aggressive guitars.  STandART were even more different, as a few days earlier the drummer had left the band, and it was decided to play without drums. Thus, STandART lineup for this concert was: Kalvis Kluburs (vocals), Kaspars “Kņazs” Stāmers (synthesizer), Modris Matisāns, Ģirts Vizbulis (changing on guitar/bass guitar), Guna Pantele (violin), Dj Momentz (samples). Valdis Šteinhards on trumpet was also a part of the lineup; however, there was no time to play the last song. The setlist with no particular order has been preserved. It might have looked something like this:

01 Das Lied Vom Einsamen Mädchen (Nico / Martin L. Gore cover)
02 Ausmas Dziesma
03 Laidies
04 Ze Amols (the early “The Wonderful Fair”)
05 Mans Svētums (My Holiness)
06 Tālbraucēja Šofera Sapnis (Fernfahrertraum)

Not played: 07 Kykywka (Kino cover – in Russian)

*** – July 18, 2003 – Silent Warmth, Madona, Latvia

We reached an agreement with priests Māris Ozoliņš and Rihards Rasnacis to repeat our audio-visual project Silent Warmth on the open-air stage in Madona as a part of the 2nd Catholic Youth Days of Latvia; however, the work of the organizers turned out to be deeply disapointing. We, five persons, went to Madona only for a few hours taking time off our jobs. Only when we arrived at the venue at 22:30, priest Rasnacis informed us that our event has been moved to the next day due to the lack of necessary equipment and the fact that they had not yet even announced our project. The change of the date in the last minute was inoperable to us; thus, we agreed to perform with the available equipment at the end of the Friday night program, just before the people were supposed to work in groups (which later was canceled). We prepared for our performance and were waiting for priest Rasnacis to let us start. However, after the blessing of the bishops, the cardinal and the priests (Rihards Rasnacis included) wished everyone goodnight. When people werealready going away, priest Rasnacis gave us a signal to start.

We felt very upset, as there was a chance to inform people that there is an option to stay longer at the venue, which was very suitable for our project. A performance of 20-25 minutes in front of 5 people is not exactly the same as 1.5 hours in front of 2000 people. Despite our physical and financial effort, the organizers had even not announced our project at the venue. Moreover, we had been looking for the necessary video equipment ourselves, including places where it had already been booked by the organizers of the youth days without informing us. The technical crew at the venue gave a good feedback about our work, whereas the organizers didn’t even apologize to us. Priest Rasnacis just said: “I think we can finish now.” Thus we have to conclude that the organizers made serious mistakes and showed irresponsibility.

During the event, the footage from STandART’s first video Fernfahrertraum (not completed then) was screened on the big screeen for the first time.

007 – August 20 (?), 2003 – Concert in the Garden, Jelgava, Latvia

Before the first STandART festival appearance, a public rehearsal was held in the garden of the house, where STandART rehearsals usually took place. This rehearsal was big enough to be called a concert. The host of the house with help of his friends constructed a rather big stage. Equipment was hired and guests were invited. The concert was interupted only by the rain and the police. Despite the rain, the listeners faithfully remained standing in front of the stage, which a makeshift roof, but it didn’t help much. The band had to wipe off their instruments after every song. The concert was finished after the third warning from the police that our noise could be heard too far.

Setlist has not been preserved, but there were a lot of songs played. First, the songs for the JRF festival were played several times. Afterwards, a wide range of cover versions followed, a version of Kraftwerk‘s – The Robots being the funniest one. The lineup for this event was: Kalvis Kluburs (vocals), Kaspars “Kņazs” Stāmers (synthesizer), Artis Čestnihs (drums), Artūrs Trumsiņš (bass guitar), Guna Pantele (violin), Jānis Indriks (guitar), Valdis Šteinhards (trumpet), Dj Momentz (samples).

Linda “Zars” Karčevska and Kristīne Redberga assisted as back-vocalists. It was at this festival that the members of STandART and Pasaules gaisma noticed each other. It soon resulted in close collaboration and Juris Tipa joining STandART.  Later Kalvis Kluburs joined Pasaules gaisma on synthesizer.
