March 27, 1999 – Skrīveri @ Baloži, Latvia

“Skrīveri” formed already in 1998, replacing several earlier bands. All those bands, however, were more focused on recordings and had never really thought about concerts.  In September 1998, “Skrīveri” published their first album “Ironijas subsīdija” and continued to create even more new songs. At his point, the pressure from friends and listeners reached its aim. The first “Skŗīveri” concert took place at Modris’ apartment in Baloži. Surprisingly, his neighbours had no objections against the sound of electric guitar in the middle of the night. Although the number of all the participants of this event was probably 10 people, “Skrīveri” started to prepare the venue already in the early afternoon. The live lineup of the band comprised Modris Matisāns and Kalvis Kluburs. Kalvis’ cousin Dj Momentz was invited as a sound technician. Various experimental videos were shot during the afternoon, which were later shown on screen during the concert. The so-called stage was set up in the biggest of the rooms. The concert was named “Sagulsimies Kā 61” (Let’s Lie Down As 61). Finally, the band members had their makeup put up and were able to step onto the  stage. Audio and video recordings of the event were made. The band’s performance received such a great response that it was immediately decided to perform more. The switching to the summer time took place at this night; thus, the morning came earlier that everybody was used to. In the morning, the guests were able to watch the video recording  “Depeche Mode” – “Live in Cologne” several times in a row.

April 17, 1999 – Skrīveri @ Ķīšezers, Latvia

After the first concert, the listeners offered their summer house for the band’s next concert. It became the venue where the next event called “Klepto” was held. Attendance: 30 people. Near the road, “Skrīveri” wrote in sand “Sagulsimies Kā 61” (Let’s Lie Down As 61) to let the guests recognize the right bus-stop. A synthesizer was used in the concert for the first time. An old TV set was used as a special light effect. The concert room was not very big, but it created an intimate atmosphere. With no doubts, this was the most legendary of all “Skrīveri” concerts. Afterwards, the pupils of Riga State Gymnasium No.1 could be often heard singing songs like “Dieva Dāvana”, “Apčakarētājs”, “Kamikadze”, “Sagulsimies Kā 61”, “Bišu Kāpt” and the climax of the concert – “Āķis, Kas Jānofotogrāfē”. The sound of “Sagulsimies Kā 61” resembled an industrial waltz. One of the listeners’ favourites was also “Ze Amols”, which had been written as a dedication to the band’s crazy photographer Jānis Amoliņš. The event was recorded in audio and video formats. The guests might probably remember the boat-trip to Sweden in the morning after the event. An old, inflatable boat “Nirok 4” was inflated in one of the rooms on the second floor of the house, then somehow pushed out of the house, and then brought to the lake of Ķīšezers. The trip to Sweden didnt last long, though. When already on the lake, it was discovered that the boat has got a hole.

July 29, 1999 – Skrīveri @ Rumbula Auto Market, Riga, Latvia

The event called “WTOPM” was the release of the second “Skrīveru” album “Basturma”. Sevral new songs from the album were played, including “Lielās Atlaides” (The Great Absolution). The event was opened by a breakdance show. For the first time, smoke was created straight at the venue; however, the band soon ran out of glycerin, but the audience was still not allowed to open either the doors or the windows. Although the event reached the biggest number of guests to that date (33 people), the mood of the event was not as positive as at the first concerts. The band members had conflicts between themselves. “Skrīveri” performed without makeup. The response from audience was rather pale. The concert was not recorded, and there are even no photos from the event. At that moment, this was considered to be the date, when “Skrīveri” ended.

August 22, 2001 – Skrīveri @ Marta Ausma Afterparty, Gunaspirts, Jelgava, Latvia

Indeed, “Skrīveri” were silent for almost two years. In Spring 2001, the members of the band shot their own movie “Marta Ausma” and composed a new song “Ausmas Dziesma” for it. This song and this particular version was later included on the first STandART single CD. After the most visited screening of the movie “Marta Ausma”, an afterparty with a concert by “Skrīveri” was held. It was not recorded, but with more than 50 guests it became the most visited “Skrīveri” concert.

The concert was held 2 years after the most of the “Skrīveri” acitivities and only a haff-year before STandART formed. Therefore, it can called both the last “Skrīveri” concert or the first unofficial STandART concert. Several guest musicians took part in the performance, most of whom later participated also in STandART concerts. Also the songs remained more or less the same in the future. Only because of Modris not beeing present, the name of the band was first changed from “Skrīveri” to the name of the movie “Marta Ausma”, and soon changed again to STandART.

The guest musicians which took part in this event and in future events, included: rapper Liepa (Kaspars “Kņazs” Stāmers), Valdis Šteinhards (trumpet), Linda “Zars” Karčevska (flute), Guna Pantele (violin). “Skrīveri” went on stage in dark coats (a reference to one of the episodes from the movie “Marta Ausma”). The bongo played by Dzintars Vīksna probably made this concert the most energetic from all “Skrīveri” concerts. The concert was played in two parts, filled with African dances in between.
