Bez Miega Zirgi
Man nakts ir nemīlama dusā doties
Arvien vēl prāti negrib darbā rimt
Un domas šķiras, zib, piekļaujoties
Kad jaunas ainas drūzmām nebeidz dzimt
Kā jaunus zirgus gani saistēs saista –
Ar varu jāspiež miegs, lai prātu tver
Lai nakti rāmi ēd –
Tie valgos sper
Tie visu nakti galvas gaisā snaista,
Skrej zviedzot rītu sveikt, kas gaismu laista

Horses With No Sleep
The English translation of the Latvian song “Bez Miega Zirgi”.
The night is unlovable for me to go to sleep
The minds still don’t want the works to cease
The thoughts part and flash cuddling up
While crowds of new scenes are born
The shepherds tie them like young horses
The sleep has to be forced to catch the mind
To eat calmly at night –
They fling when tied
They throw their heads up in the air the whole night
Run neighing to greet the morning, glistening in light
***
The lyrics by Latvian poet Rainis. English translation by Kalvis Kluburs.
